Hello All,

I should of asked this earlier but i forgot. Anyway tommorrow im hoping to buy a Juwel Rekord 70 to replace my 7gal tank which is overstocked. However because of where the tank will be placed i will have to move the old one, the new one will then go in its place but i have now where to put my 7gal for 2 weeks whilst the rekord cycles. So what i wanted to know is can i fill the tank, bring it up to the correct temp, put the filter from my old tank and run that whilst it is cycling and add some gravel to the tank to help seed it?

Will this be ok for the fish or am i asking for trouble?

Also can i use silver sand in the tank?

Thanks Dan

I had a 75ltr tank and upgraded to a 200ltr.

I moved over all the substrate and added some new to it, moved over the ceramic noodles from the old, built-in trickle filter (the only media that would fit the new filter), rocks, plants and all of the old water. New water added was warmed with boiled water and well-conditioned. I added some Cycle, but am dubious about the effectiveness of the stuff. The whole process took blinking ages, but was worth it in the end.

The only fish I lost was a rather weakend Panda cory, that'd I'd rescued from someone who was keeping it in 4" of water with no filter, heater or light! 3 tank moves in 2 weeks... so no suprise, under the circumstances.

If you can run the old filter in the new tank, alongside the new filter, then that would be good.

I've not experienced any level spikes at all :good:

Thanks nat, again very much appreciated ( one day i will spell that right lol) £4.29 for 25kg of silver sand aint bad.
Looks like tomorrow is going to be a manic day for me.

Thanks everybody.
