Hi! Was just wondering, I know brine shrimp need salty water to hatch but I was curious to know how long they will survive in a brackish tank.

If you spend a little time with Google you'll find there's a good literature on Artemia salina survival under different salinity regimes. Duplicating that here would be pointless.

The main mortality issue *in aquaria* is the need for food, suction from filters, and of course the fact fish will eat brine shrimp on sight. Salinity is a secondary issue, provided the water is at least somewhat brackish rather than freshwater.

Thanks for the speedy reply nmonks. I was just curious because they don't last long im my freshwater tank. I have a new brackish tank and had a curiosity of survivability. I will google next time.

Happy to help. No, they won't live long in freshwater. But even in brackish or marine tanks brine shrimps will usually starve or end up inside the filter long before salinity effects kill them.

When using Google for this sort of thing, using Latin names helps a great deal.
