Surgery For Fish

They put a general anesthetic in the water to make the fish unconscious and then intubate them with a tube that runs with water instead of oxygen. They "baste" the fish during surgery to make sure they don't dry out.

Sorry, but I've never had a fish that had surgery performed on it. My guess would be that the most common complication would be infection or fungus where the incision and stitches are. What kind of surgery are we talking about? Swim bladder surgery, tumor removal, etc?

I would strongly advise against trying to perform surgery on a fish unless you have vet training.

There are some vets that specialize in aquatic surgery, but it's usually the kind of thing that is performed on larger very expensive fish.

I think surgery on a fish with out training or anesthetic would be abuse.

My vet said she "does" fish and would have a go at removing the lump but I was to bear in mind the limitations of anesthetic whatever that meant

you woudnt operate on a human if you knew nothing about it, i would advise against it

Oh dear, the poor thing looks miserable, but then the usually do. Does the vet know that you're talking about such a small fish? Perhaps the growth is harmless???

Insane video. I never imagine they'd operate on an ity-bity little fish! It's gotta cost a pretty penny.
