Since my discovery of cories ive become a little obsessed with the litte fellas. Every time I see a different colour,i buy a couple, appart from the ones that were £32, im not THAT keen! Ive got bronze, albino, peppered, panda, ones with 2 stripes down their back, and some fine spotty ones (cant remember their proper names, ill get pics up of the tank and fish one i find my camera charger)
Now, on 3 occasions the Albino female has laid eggs all over the glass which have appered to have been fertilised by a bronze. Whilst the majority of the eggs have gone to fungus, some have had the black dot, and it seems some had hatched but were soon lost. I tried scraping a load of the eggs off and putting them in a breeding tank in the main tank with the water from the filter running straight into it, but it never worked.
The strange thing is, the peppered ones seem to have made their home behind a peice of drift wood and are totaly hidden from view, i can only imagine its like a proper den for them! There has never been any eggs laid by the peppered (as far as I can see anyway, the eggs have always been hidden) but last friday I saw a 15-20mm long baby cory on the floor of the tank! I was like :hyper: . It swam about for a bit and then dissapered behind the wood. Then yesterday ANOTHER slightly larger baby cory was seen, twice in the tank. All of these babies are peppered but with a bronze/red tint. Is the tint just what the babies have or might they be a cross? It was such a suprise to see these babies and I still have no idea how many I have as I dont want to move the wood. Are the peppered cories egg laying habbits different to the albinos or is it just by chance that they have done things differently? Ive heared that its quite difficuly to breed cories, but it seems ive done it without trying! AND they havnt been picked off by the platies/mollies/guppies/neons or their parents! Well chuffed! :good:

im sure theyll be ok, they are big enough now that they wont get eaten as there is nothing big enough to eat them. I was going to catch them and put them in the breeding tank to make sure the eat ok, but they are hardly ever seen! the come out when the light is turned off, the dissaper when its on! Crafty buggers!

If you have trouble feeding them, try soaking the food first so it goes to the bottom.

Its not really a problem of getting the food to the bottom of the tank, its actualy seeing them get the food. With other corys and fish in the tank they will have a battle to get anything i think. We have a large peice of wood in there with lots of green on it, ive seen the baby feed on it, will it be enough? As rarely see them im sure my best option will be to try and catch it/them.

Congrats on your fry :good: - they are lucky not to have got munched... Albino's and bronze do tend to lay on the glass, whereas quite a few cories hid their eggs under plants/decor etc,so pot luck whether they're found or not. :)

corys do hunt at night/dark - so may find bits the older ones miss

So far ive seen the fry 5 times in the last 4 days. I dont know if ive seen the same one twice, but ive certainly seen 3 that were different sizes, so im assuming it was 3 batches of eggs? So I have no way of knowing how many there are! Thanks harlequins for the advice of them hunting in the dark. I switched the light off for half an hour and when I turned it back on....... nothing lol. I have seen one tonight tho, which was nice. :)
