Super Basic Newbie Question

hey all, in the process of setting up a nano coming over from the freshwater side.
my really basic question is this: where do i put the AC or other chemical filter insert for this tank seeing as i don't have a filter or anything to put it in? i assume you can't just drop it in there.

Agree...HOB...unless you are using a canister and then you would pull out all the ceramics, bioballs, sponges, etc and just put your phosphate binder and resin in there. SH

oh see i had thought i could do it without the HOB.
is the chemical filter necessary? i know that many people don't use them regularly even on FW tanks... and i will be using R/O water.

not neccesary at all, usually used to get chemicals out (carbon) or other waste metals
