This isn't an emergency, just a random query. :) If a fish's eyes are sunken into its head, is this a symptom of any particular disease/problem?

ta for any ideas.

Its not something I have ever come across......but I answered you to bump you up a bit to get more replies.... :D Hth.
Popeye....I have dealt with.....sunken eye.....not. What kind of fish are we talking about? I won't ask for your water params.....as I know from your posts.....you know all this!! ;)

I know that when my first Jurupari died, it's eyes were sunken for about 18 hours before he died. I think it is a bad sign!! He had been attacked by my severum and was being treated, but wasn't really getting any better, then one night I noticed his eyes had sunk, and the next day he died! :(

the only referance i can find is this

Blood Flagellates - Normally aquarium fish are not affected by this. This disease consists of single-celled organisms with hair-like flagellae. They live as parasites in the blood of the fish. They live in a leeches intestines and are passed on to the fish when the leech bites the fish. Symptoms: Fish will appear listless and swim abnormally. They become emancipated, with sunken eyes and pale gills (this indicates low red blood cells). Severely infected fish will die. Treatment: No chemical treatment has been found to be effective against blood flagellates in fish. Since only fish that have been attacked by leeches become infected, it is most effective to remove the infected fish and eliminate the leeches. It is an easier task to accomplish in an aquarium than a pond.

It was a panda cory...I've been having problems with my tank recently and the one that died yesterday has had fairly sunken eyes for quite a while, so I was wondering what could've caused it. :( Thanks for your help guys.

Edit: my params are ok *except* i think nitrate has been a bit high recently. i think my test kit was giving faulty readings because reagent #3 had settled into two layers so I was onl using the top layer for the test, which is why I didn't notice. i've fixed the nitrates now though, hope it helps. :/
