Hi, I,ve recently bought a Sun Sun 303B cannister filter for my new 60 gallon set up, It features a UV sterelizer which is the bit that puzzles me as I,ve never used this type of filter before,Whilst I know it helps to prevent algae growth I,m not sure when or how often the UV switch should be turned as the instructions are very vague, Anyone any suggestions?

I have the 304b with the uv light as well, that one I’m really bad at turning off, so it’s on nearly all the time. My 2 other tanks have a fluval in-line Uv that I have set for 8 hours a day. I have minimal algae, other than a staghorn outbreak I had, which is actually why I got the in-line units to at least help curb more algae growth. Which I think they have helped. But, I’m currently out of town so I can’t really say for sure. But it looked good before I left.

So would you recommend leaving it switched off until algae starts appearing?,I,m really pleased with the filter, easy to set up and its very quiet.
