Looking at doign my sump this weekend.

Layout http://www.melevsreef.com/acrylics/sumps/glass/

second picture - what does everyone think?

I was thinking it makes the whole return section alot bigger and therefore better.

The tank i have is 24" for the sump and I was thinking of putting te skimmer off the back and have teh skimmer pump in the inlet section and makeing that part 8", the refugium part 10" and then the divide for the pump 6".

What dya think?

Sounds ok to me, if you can get hold of some egg crate, make a basket for the macro algae to go in, then you can lift it out if need be. If you lift the basket of the sump floor a bit too - water can flow over the algae on all sides.

I was wrong it's a 30" tank...

I was going to have a sand bed with a few pieces of LR and then some caulurpa (sp?). In the corner by the inlet i'd have the water pouring over LR rubble to help reduce the bubbles...

Right well didn't qutie get as far as i'd have liked to as the glass I thought was suitable appears too thin so I need to get to a glazers to get some glass cut. How thick should I go?

Also - return pump. I was thinking an OR2500 - would this be powerful enough considering the head height of about 1.5m.

If not what otehr pumps would be suitable and not too expensive...

doesnt actually need to be that thick as theres usually water both sides of baffles meaning there not that much pressure.

ive always gone 6mm but thats probably way overkill. the glass bloke reccomended 4mm to me for my sump baffles last time.

Ah cool I'll get some 4mm. I think the glass I have must be 2mm as it's very thin.

I'll find a glazer for Saturday morning.

What about the pump?

When you start would you mind putting details and photos on the The Hardware of the week thread for Sumps, pretty please :good:
