hi can you use a sump instead of canister filters in a planted tank? thanks

sponges,
biomax or sintered glass media (more surface area),
some people add peat

DON'T use carbon, nitrate, phosphate removers etc. Plants use the nutrients that they take away.

Make sure you have a pump that provides 10 - 20x turnover so that the nutrients & CO2 get pushed around evenly, and no dead spots are created.

ok thanks for the advice

I wouldn't use one with a planted tank as the sump will drive off CO2.

Although that can be combated with a higher bubble rate.
