I had an established pair of breeding convicts in a species tank but female and fry sadly died recently. Male almost died too but managed to save him. Have since cleaned out tank with 100% water change.
Male (3.5inches) looks sad on his own, has started shifting gravel from tank bottom but otherwise doesn’t do much
Should I put him in community tank with a pair of black mollies and small pair of swordtails or will he attack smaller fish?
I'd really like to find him a mate but not sure how to do this. Should I
1. get an adult female and just put her in tank or will they fight (couldn't bear to lose another)
2.put 2 adult females in tank and let him choose new mate -will they form a threesome or attack spare female?
3. get several larger fry (too big to eat) and let him choose female when they are grown up

i wouldn't really put it in with the molleis and the swordtails it might bully them and kill them i think the best bet is either get rid of it or buy a couple of females for it

where abouts are located as i have female blue/black and female pink/white convicts and large blue/black fry @ about 2"

I'm in London and would ideally like to get him a mate -can't risk him killing my mollies. he's not a happy fish but he is a beauty. Want to keep him.

tbh I wouldn't go with a Female convict for the simple reason that you will no doubt eventually be over-run with convict fry that you can't rehome, Convicts are such prolific breeders that in monetary values they are worthless, People who try to breed convicts tend to have to resort to paying people to take them off their hands as no one wants them.

What size is the tank? How about going for a shoal of dithers, such as Giant Danios or Rainbows or for a smaller tank Zebra Danios or Buenos Airies Tetras,
or go for a Bichir or a pleco, or a group of hardy bottom feeders like Botia Lohachata

Thanks for your suggestions
It's a fairly small tank, originally meant as a home form 2 convicts. Not big enough for plecos or bichirs
Would danios or tetras keep him amused? He's still in breeding mode, shifting gravel. Mate and fry died 2 weeks ago
