Suitable Tankmates For A Betta In A Biorb

Hey guys, thanks for all the responses.

I didn't have my heart set on having any catfish in the biOrb, I just didn't see why catfish couldn't be included as I didn't know you couldn't use normal gravel in a biOrb because of the filter.

If I didn't plan to include any catfish and just wanted a Betta by itself (or maybe with a couple of White Cloud Minnows and possibly an Apple Snail for company) then would a biOrb be a reasonable idea or are there still good reasons not to get one (i.e. ease of cleaning, no living plants etc)?

Thanks,
Dan

a betta and a snail or two would be fine but IMO minnows should be kept in a larger tank in a much larger number

My mum has a bi-orb and she has taken the middle bit out and changed the gravel. She just uses a small internal filter and it works great. She still uses the bubble bit(pump) for one of those little ornaments.

yes fine for just a betta on its own. there isnt really anything else you could have. maybe a few shrimp. but there delicate and the filter may damage them.
but when you start taking the filter appart and replacing it. it looses its modern looks

but i wouldnt do it

I think they are purely decorative, i wouldn't want to put any fish in really as there isn't a lot of swimming space. I wouldn't like to put a betta in one, they are so inquisitive and I don't think they would be very stimulated just going round in circles :(

i agree

I agree with Tibby too.....would never have one. As they distort our view it makes me wonder what it does to the fishes view looking out. I've heard somewhere that it can stress them and also contribute to clamped fins.
