I wonder if anyone else has come across this!!!!
I bought my first 6 fish last weekend 2 x leopard Danios, 2 x Zebra Danios and 2 x Pearl Danios, well my first leopard danio was found on my carpet two hours after putting them in, and when i got home from work last night i found the other leopard danio on the floor as well!!!!
Now the thing is i have no idea how they could have leapt out!!!!!!! When i've been doing my water changes they swim around the top but apart from that the lid is sealed shut and the only gaps are where the filter pipes go into the tank ( the fishes were found on the opposite side though!!!) and where my air curtain pipe goes in, but these are the standard gaps on the back of the tank that were there when i bought it (Fluval Deep Duo 1000)
I'm totally baffled by this and really haven't got a clue how the little ones got out to leap to their death !!! :(

all danios are excelent jumpers. if the is a slight hole for them to get out of, they will find it.
I suggest the you seal the holes with sponges to prevent this from happening again.

Thanks Wolf, yeah i was thinking of a way to try and plug any gaps!!!! the holes aren't that big and where the fish was found is nowhere near where the hole is at the back of the tank!!!!!!!!

Oh dear, I have 12 danios. This has frightened me! I think I shall take steps now before any of mine find a way out.

Its possible that they jumped out the hole, then wriggled across the floor, or do you have any other animals (cats, etc.) that may have messed with the fish, causing them to end up where they were?

Fish are more likely to jump when something is not right. It may just be that another fish was chasing it or something moving in the room scared it or it could be something wrong in the tank.
Fish will jump out of the tank if the water conditions are not good.
Is your tank cycled? Or are you cycling with fish? Have you used water conditioner? What are you water stats?
And is the tank heated? they will jump if the tank is too cold.
In the mean time put a teatowel or sponges in the gap where your cords go into the tank, it will stop further suicides until you find the reason for them.

Callie84 is quite correct fish, in general, are more likely to jump is there is something wrong with the water
however danios do it for 'fun' (I searched my mind for a better term but found none, term that is not mind :p )

The other 4 danios have been fine, yes the tank is still cycling but it's nearly there ammonia is 0 nitrite is .25 and nitrate is 40, 20% water change every other day. temp is between 77-79, my theory is they got shot up the bubble curtain and out the gap as the danios seem to like playing in that!!!!
