Hi all,

I "inherited" a 75 UK (90 US) gallon tank a few months ago, along with its last 2 remaining fish, a Blood Parrot Cichlid of about 7 inches and a fully grown (around 6 inches) Silver dollar Metynnis Argenteus.

I kept most of the water so as not to have cycling problems and the two fish got on just fine. I learned that Silver dollars are shoaling fish so I got two 2" silver dollars to keep him company, one of which died after about 5 weeks, what from I don't know. He seemed very stressed, not eating and his respiration rate (gill movement) was very fast for a day or so before death.

I've waited over a month since then before adding more fish. I've just a few days ago added 2 opaline gouramies and 2 gold gouramies, all about 2 inches long. They seem to be fairly aggressive to each other at times, with a bit of chasing but no obvious nipping that I've seen. i'm hoping they will settle down once they establish who is boss.

Getting to the point. I realise that I may not have started from an ideal situation but cannot easily rehome the parrot a} because he is huge b} because I live in a fairly remote place. I can only get fish once a month when I travel to the next island as there is no lfs here. What I'd like is some suggestions of compatible fish/numbers of each. I have no algae-munchers or bottom feeders yet. I will probably get another one or two silver dollars anyway to make up a small shoal.

Thanks.

I realize this might be a pain in the butt, however, I suggest going to your LFS and writing down the names of all the fish you like the look of, then research and post on here and we can help with stocking levels. Without knowing what kinds of fish you have available, it's kind of hard to make suggestions.

Ultimately though you should have 5-6 silver dollars.

Thanks DTH,

I'll try and remember some of them and post later. i won't be near a lfs for a couple of weeks. I know they have plecos, don't ask me which type though. I was thinking about maybe a small shoal of congo tetras, which they also have. The guy there was trying to sell me a sucking loach to keep the gravel clean but I already knew they are not a good idea as they are slime coat and eyeball predators.
