I have a 48UKGal tank with a a fluval 404 filter (Nice and over powered ;)) which is currently holding a pair of Sevs (roughly, they're about 3" atm).

I want them to remain as the dominant fish of the tank but would like to include a smaller pair of fish to bring a little more action to the tank but not so weak that they won't be able to cope with a bit of aggression. Preferablly another kind of South Am cich.

I am giving my tank a revamp so I'll be putting in new decor, plants and the like so I won't have to worry about the Sevs establishing a huge tank sized territory befor the others get a chance... They'll all go in at the same time.

Any fishy suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

It would be best for your Sev's if you just let them have the tank, rather then force them to fight other cichlids for it. Sevs are no small cichlids and will fill out that tank in time. To fill out the tank a bit since it seems empty, a shoal of tough non-cichlids would be a better option then more cichlids, like silver dollars.

If you insist on mixing them with cichlids anyway, go with a small bottom dweller that won't compete for space. Get some good cover going at the bottom and you should get away with some Rams.

I decided not to wait until the revamp and against the idea as leaving the sevs as the dominant pair and brought a pair of firemouths. The firemouths are still young so I'm sure the Sevs will have time to get used to them before they decide to gain The Hulk like similarites at spawn time ;)
