Hi, im planning a new 250L planted tank and wondered if i could have some advice on plants to use and on my hardscape.

As you can see in the picture i was thinking of one large rock as the focal point with two small ones to balance out the other side with a large carpet of Eleocharis parvula between the two. Id also like to partially cover the stones with a moss of some kind, possibly Willow moss.

The large green areas on the pic are where id like to put the majority of my plants, but i have no idea what. Id really appreciate some suggestions and any comments on my overall plan would be great.

The tank specs will be:
250L 120cm x 45 x 45
Eco complete substrate
216W of light from 4 T5's
Pressurized Co2 with an external inline reactor
Eheim 2126 External filter (rated for 350L aquariums)
NKP fertilizers using the Estimative Index

Will be stocked with amano shrimp, ottos, tetras and other small fish (haven't decided yet!)

One piece of advice I would give at this stage is make sure that the rocks you use are interesting. Look for rocks with surface texture, because at the size you plan to use, smooth faces could be extremely dull. Think of how bland and uninspiring large pieces of slate can be.

Cheers, Dave.

Ye im trying to find some nice ones. The local garden center has some dark grey basalt with veins of white quartz, which looks good, i have a small chunk I'm going to soak and see if it effects the water. Aquaessentials is also meant to be getting some nice rocks in soon.

Thanks, its nice to know I'm on the right lines at least!

Im finding i've got too much choice plant wise, being inexperienced I'm having a hard time deciding. I was thinking of using some of the Giant Hygrophila (not sure on the precise species) i already have and wanted a much more delicate stem plant as well. The rotala fits the bill and looks great.

Your nano is looking great. I love the Utricularia graminifolia, i hadn't seen that before. I presume it will grow into a carpet eventually?
