I am getting a 5 gallon, and it will be a colwater tank.
And that is not up for debate, no i can not get a heater and no i can not get a bigger tank :p

Anyway i need suggestions for fish to keep in it, and how many...
I know i do not have to many options, but maybe some of you can help me out with suggestions

Thanks :)

Hillsteam loaches like to be kept in groups and require very clean, oxygenated and fast moving water. They also like rocks for sucking on and for algae to grow. Once you add rocks, there would not be much volume for the fish themselves.

Saying that, it can be done and I kept a species tank for a good while. Fantastic little fish.

to be honest i think u can only have white cloud montain minnow just a small group

why cart you up grade the tank and all that is needed
just wondering

Simply because of the space unfortunatly :(

How about 3 Panda Cory Catfish??

Btw the tank will be highly planted with ferns and moss's and has a good surface area, so lots of oxygen :)

will these be going in the cold water tank if so they do kind of need some heat but they should be find other wise unless im wrong

Indeed.
Panda Cory Catfish do not need as high temperatures as the other cory catfish.
But on all the sites i have researched it says 20C +

Well my tanks are never lower than 18C (at night) and normally 21C (durring the day)

So i was thinking, will 2C below what is recommended (and only at night) be okay for them?

Thanks

Fish can easily get whitespot with tempature fluctuations. A heater stops the tempature getting below a certain level.

Peppered cories would be more suited but I think your tank is too small tbh.

Do Peppered cories grow bigger than panda cories?

Would i be okay to have 3 Peppered cories in there?
The tank would be very heavily planted as well...and i have always been very religous with water changes..

peppered corys grow to 4 inches.. so twice as big, though temp req is 20 as opposed to 21..

The other problem with panda cories is that they are sensitive to water stats- not a good idea for a small tank which is going to be less stable. Peppereds are hardier, but also bigger, and quite active, so neec space to move around.

They would suit the tempature but not the tank size. Do you actually own this tank yet? Surely a 10gal wouldn't take that much more room.

Not really much you can do with a space that small I'm afraid.

HeHe, okay i spoke to a friend today (of which i have been looking after his goldfish for a few months now so he owes me a few favours), has agreed to swap me my 5 gallon for his unused 8.5 gallon. Although i calculate it to be a 9 gallon.

His going to use my 5 gallon for breeding snails for puffer snacks.

Well this trade is going to happen in 2 weeks time when he comes to collect his goldies.

So what do you recon, am i okay for 3 peppered corys in a very well planted 9 gallon?
