Due to the arrangement of my 40 litre tank, I have dropped my original plan to have pygmy corydoras. However, this leaves me with a vacancy for another nice fish to go in the tank instead! Current occupants are:
Black Phantom Tetras
A reasonable number of plants
Gravel
A piece of attractive driftwood
A sort of cave type ornament.

I had considered a dwarf gourami when the tank was a little more mature, but from all I have read I am now concerned that it will automatically drop dead within weeks. I was not sure if a betta would get on with the tetras since they do wave their fins about and might send the betta psycho. I'm not choosy about whether the new fish occupies the top/middle/bottom of the tank, as long as it can be friends with the tetras. Any ideas?

I've had pearl gouramis in the past and they're great fish for any community tanks, really hardy too. Had these guys with the betta, had no problems.

Hi there.

How many black phantoms do you have in your tank at the moment because stocking quantities needs to be taken in to account.

I'm allowing for stocking levels. The tank will not be overstocked. Assume that there will be adequate stock capacity for the new fish.

Bumping this... still no suggestions other than the pearl gourami (which I think is too big)?

How many Black Phantom Tetras are already in this 40l tank?

Given these fish need a 6+ group and ideally more to reduce their fiesty fin nipping ways even further, I definitely would not be comfortable with Black Phantoms staying in a 40l long term and I strongly urge you to not add anything else to this tank while you consider a larger (longer more than anything) tank.

Edited for overreacting to people who are only trying to help, sorry.
