Help please, I had been treating my fish (aquatropic 100 160 litre tank) for flicking and was about to give a second dosing as the problen hadnt gone (using sterazin). I left the tank for 1 week and just before i started the second dose noticed what i thought could be a small patch of fungus on one of the guppies. I used anti fungus (interpet)and not the sterazin as i thought this problem should be treated first.First off i did a water change (60 litres)then dosed. Im not sure what happed then but the tank went cloudy and slimey overnight!! I did another 60 litres water change yesterday and it was the same this morning. I am using interpet tapsafe and added nutrafin cycle to help the bacteria and my nitrites were 0.5. All other readings ok but not perfect. What should i do? Im worried about the shrimp and fish, do i water change again and by how much? HELP!!
Just checked stats, ph 7.4, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 2.5

it's probably an effect from mixing the two medications. Do another substantial water change, make sure you've cleaned the filter and leave it for a day or two before redosing. If possible, medicate a separate tank and move the guppies over to let the water stabilise. I would make sure you do A 10-15% water change daily for the next 3 or 4 days, and let us know if it makes any difference, if not we might need a bit more information like tank inhabitants, age etc.

I got quite a few guppies (10 young ones, 2 months old and 3 adults, all females) 3 ottos 6 amano shrimp and 6 green tetras in there at the mo so couldnt moving them be stressfull? Should i add nutrafin cycle to help the bacteria at every water change too?

yeah, moving that many fish would probably not be a good idea. I wouldn't add more bacteria as it sounds like you've already got high levels, just use tapsafe, and if the fish start acting strangely maybe add a small amount of the bacteria, but not a lot.
How long has the tank been established for?

Since November, Ive gone more for plants than decoration and probably got half of it planted up now, with some bog wood and stone.I havent had any problems with the water quality at all untill now thats whats so annoying/confusing. I added all the fish slowly over the months to give the filter chance to build up the bacteria too.
Because i had the treatment in i took out the carbon filter and replaced it yesterday with a second white filter sponge to help clear the water.I also left the bubbler going to get as much air into the water as i could hoping it would help. The water does look clearer this morning but i will still go ahead and take out 18 litres.

A lot of tropical fish medication can be very harmful to shrimp.

Make sure you check the small print on the back of the bottles or boxes... and check that your shrimp are active and seem ok. :)

Took 18 litres out yesterday and this morning its a whole lot clearer I'll take another lot out again later on today.
I originally took out my shrimp and then half way through the treatment "accidentally" acquired some. They were fine so I'm hoping to add the original ones back in soon, the snails weren't affected either unfortunately!

I have had the same problem as you and it also started yesterday. Done a small water change last night, and this morning i woke up and it was extremely cloudy. Guppies seemed to be gasping a little.

I quickly did a water change of around a third of the tank and it still hasn't cleared up. This is strange, where are you located?

its ok, i have just read, you are nowhere near me so isnt a dodgy water supply!

I didn't bother doing the second water change as the tank is crystal clear again. Very strange. The slime has gone too and the shrimp and Otto's are happily munching on the gunk thats left in the plants and on the gravel. I'm going to have to yank out some of the plant anyhow as it has hair algae (Something else that i was going to treat for later.) on it but that seems to have trapped all the nasty stuff that was floating around in the water. I think I'll do it manually now lol, its put me off using chemicals. I'll wait a few days more until i dose again for the gill flukes, just to make sure it doesn't flare back up. The fish arent flicking madly at the mo just now and then but their gills are red so it'll have to be done. Thanks for all the help and confidence boost it helps to have help quickly and stops you panicking when there is someone to ask.
