When I went to bed last night I found my 2-3inch oscar dead, and lying on the bottom of the tank, rigamortis had well and truly set in

The strangest thing about this was it seems completely random, just yesterday I took some pictures of him and he hadnt been acting strange at all, eating VERY enthusiastically and swimming around jsut fine. He wasnt an aggressive fish yet so he shared his tank 48"x18"x18" with 2 angels, 2 3spot gourami, 8 small tiger barbs, 5 clown loaches and 4 rosy barbs. Im planning on getting rid of the angels and the gouramis very soon and it wasnt a permanent stocking plan

Water seems fine, 6.8ph, ammonia nitratres nitrites etc all good, Dh Kh don't know temp 27c. all the other fish seem absolutely fine.

Im going away for the weekend so i wont be able to keep an eye on the tank for 2 days :(

hes had one stressful experience previous where he jumped out of the tank (through the feeding hole when he could still fit through it :() and i didnt find him for probably 5-10 minutes (I was in the shower) and I put him bank in, in a isolated bucket floating in the water for temp stability because the other fish where picking on him and he was barely moving and then the next morning he was looking a bit better, but still not his normal self. I let him back in with the other fish and by night he seems almost good as new, that was about amonth ago and hed grown A LOT since then, probably almost double size

i cant really see any reason why he would die... any theories?

these photos were taken within 2 days of each other, so those are very recent pics of him alive

Bless him R.I.P.
What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Without any symtoms it hard to say to be honest, poor thing the really wide open mouth upsetting.

A fish can die with an open mouth.
But when alive an open mouth like that can mean somethihg stuck in there mouth, sores to ulcers in the mouth, but the mouth looks fine to me.
