Hi there, I am new to this site and wondered if anyone can help or shed some light on my problem.

I have had a sucking loach for several years and all has been ok, but now its stomach is swollen and it looks pregnant. It is still moving around and eating but looks a bit slow and rather fat.

The rest of the tank seem ok - I did have another one that died several weeks ago, I put it down to age as there were no other symptoms.

Any info much appreciated

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What do you feed your fish.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Is he resting to one side.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.
Is he being listless and lethagic.

What does it look like when he goes to the toilet. = not able to see
Is he resting to one side. = no on bely
Does he look pale or darker in colour. = no change
Is he being listless and lethagic. = no just a bit slow due to size

Many thanks for quick response

Just feed some peas and don't feed any other food for a few days.
He could just be constipated.
Check water stats.
Keep a look out for when he goes to the toilet.

Thanks - will do.

He tends to hide in a cave most of the day so not sure if able to monitor his motions but will check the water stats tomorrow. ;o)

Look his diet needs up as some eat veg.

I have had him a couple of years and he loves cucumber but will check out other veg matter. I have checked out a site called fishbase.org - any other good reference sites much appreciated.

Hiya, just to let you know I am now without my sucking loach ;o( plus a couple of others.

I tried the peas - but no one showed any interest - apart from the corys who enjoyed knocking them around. The loach did pick up for a few days and was 'out and about' but still had a swollen stomach (no signs of constipation), although it did look slightly reduced.

I came home from work yesterday to find my pump not working and three dead tetras - on checking out the tank, I found that the sucking loach had also died and was hidden behind the plants at the back of the tank, and not his usual hiding place.

I checked my water stats after we last spoke and they were as per the norm for my tank - I have always had low PH (for many years). I checked again yesterday and still no change so not sure what has happened.

Anyway, I am keeping an active eye on the tank and no more casualties to date (fingers crossed).

what are the water stats hun
if you could post the actual results for
ammonia
nitrites
nitrates
ph
and temp

might find out another reason why the fish are dying

Fish don't always eat peas the first couple of time you introduce them. Keep trying. But remove the uneaten ones the next day.

Check water stats and then do a water change.
R.I.P.
