what do you think about mixing subtropical fish like rosy barbs with coldwater fish like goldfish?

i think it would work out provided the temperature is set to the lower end of the temp range for the subtropical fish. it isn't ideal, but it can be done imo.

Not really it will shorten the goldfishes lifespan and also they will grow more quickly what size tank is it for how many goldfish and how many barbs were you thinking

i'm selling some of my rosy barb juvies to someone who has a 30 gallon tank with goldfish (she didn't say how many and doesn't know what kind) and the temp set to 70F.

i think you may be right about the growing more quickly part, because that's just what the lady told me.

Quite a few people keep Goldfish with Tropicals, and like you said they grow quicker do the Goldfish.

Goldfish are more kinda subtropical fish anyway - goldfish with rosy barbs would be great, provided the tank is large enough and you have a big enough filter to house the goldfish properly.
Any goldfish with long fins will most likely have their fins ripped to shreds though.
