I have been sat here looking at my tank thinking that something does not quite look right. I think that it is the substrate. At the moment I have got a bag of Argos play sand (I do not like it too thick as I have found that thin layers are easier to clean all the plec poop off). I am thinking that a darker sand may look better. What do you guys think?

My plan was to replicate a central / south American river biotope. Plants are hard due to the fish I have in there. Anyway, enough rambling, here are some pictures ...

Oh and please ignore the heater, I am going to upgrade to either an inline or a Rena Smart.

Any ideas?

That's a really stunning tank as it is. I think maybe some darker substrate as you suggested could look really good; it would definately bring out those beautiful blue shades in your fish and would contrast well with the wood. But don't be disheartened by that, those are some gorgeous fish and some lovely pieces of wood.

+1 kelly-jo. your tank is stunning fish protector! you could go with black sand and a plain black background...up to you!! it looks great to me as it is!

:good:

Thanks gals :). I am off work for a week soon so I may get some darker sand and tinker. Has anyone got any sand recommendations please?

I'm going to be using unipac black sand for my 7 gal, I'll let you know if it's any good :)

Seriously you should leave it as it is.

Or you may do i what i do, look back at old photos and think.....#41#### why didnt i leave it how it was.

Also thats not a Belem Severum, its a Rotkeil.

Interesting. I started a topic on here last month and the general belief was that it was not a Rotkeil Severum, but a Belem.
