Fish Crazy
Hello everyone,
Just a couple of q's regarding another option for substrate. The other day I was at a local lake and was grabbing some rocks for a tank and thought of something. All of the rocks I grabbed were in a really fine sand 'substrate' at the bottom of the lake, since I use all of the rocks from this lake(after boiling them), could I use the sand from the lake as a substrate(after sifting through it, picking out any impurities, & boiling it)?
Even though the lake is publicly (spelling) used, anything I've taken from it & put in my tanks is dried out in the sun, baked, then boiled for a couple of hours ...just to be on the safe side. - which is why I thought using the gravel would be okay. Can anyone help me out & let me know if it is/isn't okay to do?
Also, whether it's lake sand or pool/play sand I use, can I just clean it and add it on top of the existing substrate? or do I have to remove all the old gravel to add the new sand?
Thanks in advance,
BobRoss
