Substrate Depth?

Hi all,

I was wonding if someone could give me an idea of the minimum depth of the tanks substrate?

Does it need to be deeper if you are using live plants?

you dont necessarily need substrate but a minimum would just be a thin covering. if you want plants it helps to have it deeper as it holds the plants down

Yeah, I only just noticed the helpful list of related subjects underneath my post. I should really do a search next time!

At the moment I have, what I would call, small sized pebbles as a substrate. Would it be benefitial to mix something finer into it? I seem to have a little problem with the live plants I currently have in the tank come up or being pulled out.
