Just noticed that one of my female guppies seems pretty big and square. Have had them for about 6 months at least. There are no male guppies in the tank. One male molly. He and our other molly just had babies, I removed her from the tank and he's chasing around the guppies like he was the molly. Can a molly and guppy breed? Or is there something wrong with the guppy?
I've removed the male to a third tank for now so he can't harrass anyone.

They can breed though it is highly uncommon...the offspring are sterile. Here's a pic of a Guppy x Molly hybrid:

Guppy x Molly

How long has she been without a male? Guppies can store sperm for up to 6 months...

we had a male guppy in there temporarily about 4 months ago. the male molly's been in there for at least 6 months. Only paid any attention to them after I took his female out (we were supposed to get two of the same sex when we got them)

So I guess I'll see what we get, if she is pregnant... I put her in with the molly fry away from the balas and others.

if she is pregnant then it more than likely to be the males you put in for a short period of time who are guilty of fatherhood, it only takes a short period of time for guppies to mate. they wouldve prob dropped fry before over the past 3 months and all have been eaten if its their first fry you may not have noticed that they were infact pregnant as young and first time guppies dont always show pregnancy.

ooh I hope they didn't. Poor things. I'd feel really bad. Although there is a lot of plant cover, I'd have thought one or two might survive.

Can u get a picture up????

Mollies that breed with guppies aint has hard as ppl think, ive succesfully done it many times but they do take longer to get pregnant that usual..

Yet i think if you had a male guppy in there for aq bit, hes more of a culprit..

sorry, been away. I can take a pic tonight. I'm not sure if she is or not now. I may just put her back in the main tank.
