Sorry this may sound like a stupid question but can goldfish live in a heated aquarium with tropical fish. Sorry but i am a beginer

Dunno, but I had 2 pearlscales, 1 blackmoor, 1 goldfish and 1 yellow goldfish living in a perspex tank which ran at about 74F and all died, not saying it was the heat, but couldn't put my finger on why the 2 goldfish died, as they were in the tank after the pearlscales and the blackmoor died and after the tank had been thoroughly cleaned and cycled?!?!

Well, my Aunt kept a Goldfish in a heated aquarium and it lived for 3 years, which as far as I can tell is exceptionally good for a Goldfish. So, in my past experiance with her tank, they would be suitable for a tropical tank - but I know others hold different views about this. ;)

Actually, goldfish can live for 20years if in the correct size tank, and with proper care. Its because people keep them in small tanks, over crowded that they only live 3 or 4 years and people think thats good. (not having ago at you btw ;)).

If you keep a goldfish in too high a temperature you will speed up its metabolism and shorten its lifespan. Not a good idea in other words. There are some semi-tropical fish that might be able to cope with the cooler goldfish temperatures (no personal experience here), but IMO you'd be better off looking at 2 separate tanks (or even better 1 tank and 1 pond).

And a lifespan of 3 years for a goldfish is very bad, though sadly not exceptionably bad, seeing how often these fish in particular have their lives shortened by unsuitable living conditions. You should expect to be able to keep your goldfish alive at least as long as your moggie.

Another problem with keeping goldfish with tropicals is that goldfish are extreme heavy waste producers so your tropicals would be at risk from that too. Goldfish because of their high waste production and extra need of oxygen need more space than tropicals: 20 gallons for the first and 10 gallons for every additional goldfish is the minimum recommendation.

A well kept goldie will last decades. The oldest recorded just died at 46 odd. 3 yrs? Don't post if you don't know mate.

Yes, a Goldfish will live in tropical temperatures. No, they would much rather cold.

They will grow VERY fast, and start eating other tankmates. Avoid mixing tropicals and goldies, I speak from experience.

I'm certainly not an expert, but my mother in law has a goldfish along with a couple of rosy barbs, a fantail goldfish and a koi in a 12g tank with two algae eaters and two angels. I'd say this was overcrowded even for a mature tank, but the koi is 4 years old, the goldfish is 6 years old and shows no signs of illness or stress.

I wouldn't recommend it from an ethical point of view (would you like to be kept in an enclosure at a temperature higher than you're used to?).
