Well when ever I put plants in my tank they grow roots, but the actual plant normally goes brown, looks reall bad, and dies off!! Why is this?? What should I do?? Please help!!

You can buy some sort of solution from the lfs to help the survival and growth of plants!!!!!

There are many different types of plants. What types of plants are you getting? Different plants have different needs, some are very easy to take care of and some are very difficult. Some plants sold in pet stores arent even true aquatic plants and they die from drowning in the water. Also, what are the dimentions of the tank and gallonage? How many watts do you have? Plants need full spectrum light bulbs too in order to grow. Full spectrum lights simulate the sun. Co2 is also required by some plants to thrive. You have to do alot of research and put alot of money into planted aquariums. Java ferns and java moss are some plants that are really easy to keep and dont require co2 injectors.

This is a question that could have a million answers. Head over to the planted tank section. Lots of good info.

First step is to know which plants to buy in the first place.
I'll suggest three that are really really hard to kill

1. Java Moss
2. Water Sprite
3. Java Fern

Be careful though plants are addictive and you might soon find yourself spending ten times the time and money on the plants then you are on the fish.

Anvil isn't kidding here, either, some plants will require you to purchase a new lighting fixture, co2 injectors, ferts and special gravels. The financial restraints are keeping me from planting a tank myself, but if you have the financial means to create one, they look beautiful. Good info on planting, lighting, co2 and more can be found here.

Yeh, i got some plant food from my lfs, also light can affect this i think algae turns brown with to much light and green with not enough light.

Welcome to the dark side! Plants will take over your life! lol.

There are a bunch of possibilties. You could have too much or not enough light. You might not have enough fertalizer in the tank.

Your best bet is to post this over in the planted section, and add a few things that we will need to help solve the problem.

How much light is on the tank.
What kind of substrate.
What kind of a fertalizer you are using (if any).

That should help us figure it out for you.

You have to make a big investment to have live plants in your tank, such as lighting your supposed to have lighting ,fertilizers, frequent water changes, and maybe Co2 injection systems

I have an aquaglow light and a sun glow light i think :S,
The aqua one helps stimulate plant growth maybe you should consider it?, how many places have you got for the lights?
