Hi every one,

okay so i now know not to mix scaless cat fish with armoured cats.

i went away for 4 days last weekend leaving my 40G community happy as larry. part of the stock is one 7 inch sailfin plec and a 5 inch gold nugget.

i have one cave.

i now have a missing gold nugget. no sign at all, not a whisker

rip little buddy

Beautiful fish (was) weird how not even a trace left..............shame about the fishie, on the bright side another excuse to go visit your lfs and choose something else :)

so you have no rocks or anything ??? it could have gone under it or even the gravel??, I would suggest to gently remove everything inside your tank, maybe it's trapped or something (hopefully), I can't believe there's no trace at all of him

Ask a family member, maybe he died under their care and they are afraid to tell you, at least that would "solve" the puzzle

have you ever seen a boesmani rainbow when there is a dead in the tank? i have 2 of those plus a sailfin. no mystery i'm afraid he was dinner once he died. if the sailfin got defensive over his cave it wouldn't have taken long for him to "assert his authority".

i feel really stupid now. idiot.

thanks for the suggestion though.

Sorry for your expensive loss. I paid £20 for my Gold Nugget Pleco a year ago, sadly he is no longer with us. When I had bad water quality (dead fish in filter- no idea) it was one of the first to die. I now have a Common, apparently they are quite hardy. Downside is they get big. I know money is not the point but it is a lot to pay again if you want another one. :)

wow, than thats too bad... I always thought that a death fish in the tank will always leave a trace, specially because of it's size -_-

nasty story :(...

I'd not thought about it too much myself... our 10" 'common' and our 4" goldie get on ok... but i may have to have a bit of a check up on the compatability.

thanks for the replies.

Smithrc: if they have enough hiding places they'll be fine, the problem i have is there is only 1 cave in the tank. the gold nugget used to hide behind a lump of mopani wood, unfortunatly my plants have taken over his space. so the only hiding place left was either in the cave or under leaves. i'd also just made the cave a little bigger, probably made it more attractive to both plecs hence the conflict.
