i went to a different lfs yesterday as i wanted some different fish as my lfs is small, so i buy 2 pairs of gouramis, I THINK, cant member what called :\, also got 5 lemon tetras and 5 flame tetras, this guy said would be fine with my pair mollies nad pair plattys,

so i woke up this morning, 3 flaming tetras, 2 hardly able 2 swim from lack of fins and the other seams to be fine, everyone else is fine in the tank, the 3 "survivors" are now in my 10g, this isnt really a question as its obvious the gouramis(if thats what they are) have attacked them as i saw one doing it, my point is...

IDIOT WASTED MY MONEY SAYING THEY WOULD BE FINE TOGETHER!!!!!!!!
ok so only 3 quid for the 5 but shush....

rant over :p

Have you called LFS to explain/try to get a refund or new fish??

i was tempted but seams the 2 sets of 5 tetras he gave me like 3 quid discount for no reason i thort id be bit rude moanin seams ave not really lost any money.... but in future i will go my normal lfs as there great and will get advice before buying new fish :D

You should always research what you get first so it's only partly the LFS' fault, the other half is yours.

My thoughts aswell, I have been guilty of buying fish without doing the research but the LFS should have given you better advice also.

true true, but then mostly the mistake i made was relying on the LFS guy, now ive learnt to do my own research to!

other fish died, only 2 survivors :\ although think they will live :)

Gouramis are semi-agressive fish and most of the time do fine with tropical community fish. Every now and then you'll get a mean one that will tear up and chase fish mostly the power blue dwarf gouramis from my experiences with fish. I had a gold gourami for 7 months that was fine for all my fish but when I added 3 angels he wouldnt leave them alone he was constantly chasing them which lead me to adopt him out at work. Some times you win some times you lose with semi aggressive fish next time stick with all community.

Um. Isn't a little bit unsurprising you have problems when you add what is it, 14 fish at the same time?

Isn't that a bit extreme? I thought you were supposed to add like 6 and then give the tank a week to settle? Am I wrong?

Depending on the size of the tank, type of fish and number already in there, you could add 14, though it would have to be a huge tank, mostly schoolnig fish and well matured first.

Also, the people selling the fish are just that, people. They make mistakes, they don't know everything and they don't always do the right thing. That's where researching the fish you want yourself comes in handy. You know what you already have, what size aquarium, all the parameters and hopefully, know whether the fish can go with what you have or not.

How many adzactly are you supposed to add at a time?? Thanks for bringing up that Question!!

I dont have my fish yet...I have had MANY previouse tanks, and never really thought about how many you where supposed to put in at a time?? Anyone have the answer?

For anything under 30 gallons, no more than 6-8 schooling fish like Tetras or Minnows, or 5 of any small fish and only 2-3 of medium sized fish. Over 30 gallons you can do slightly more but I wouldn't go over the numbers for a 30 gallon aquarium unless you knew what you were doing.

Well, I do 4 at a time or less, usually. It lets the tank gradually become accustomed to the amount of fish in there.

Flame tetras are very timid and shouldn't be put with aggressive gourami. Or larger tetras, they don't fight back....
