Okay, so I purchased API First Layer Laterite substrate for my plants in an upcoming 20 gallon tank. Of course, I had to rinse the substrate off first.
I had read somewhere that Laterite needed to be thoroughly washed, like, until the rinsed water was 100% clear or it'll turn your tank the color of rust.
I have literally spent over an hour rinsing this gravel and it's still not done disposing of its color even a little bit. I'm going to scream!!!! Am I doing something WRONG?!

you don't rinse Laterite. It goes directly under the substrate.

I have used laterite in most of my planted tanks as well as in pots for planting in bare bottom tanks. At most, all it needs is a basic rinse to get the worst of the dust out. You will never get the water to run clear. If you want you can skip the rinse.

I also do not follow their directions. I put in a layer of substrate and then sprinkle the laterite on top of it. Then I mix it. That is the reverse of what they suggest. Once mixed I add the rest of the substrate on top and only then will I begin to fill the tank with water.
