i had 2 platys and the female had fry about 6-7onths ago ...both parents have since passed away ..and i have 2 surviving fry.. ( i had an episode with a kid and the fish food! ) ... that aside the 2 that are surviving are small... what could make them half the size of their parents?? i was just wondering is this normal?? or does this mean that they could have some genetic disorder?? or could they be crossed with my guppies and i can't tell by looking at them?? or are they still too young to be full size?? ( :/ :/ :/ :/

any thoughts will be appreciated.... thanks guys.... :good:

Well guppies and platies cannot breed. The Genera is different (Platy=Xiphophorus, Guppy=Poecilia) but lets not deal with that. :D

I dont believe that this is normal. I had platies and the female gave birth and the parent died but the lonely fry survived and is quite plump and jolly. It didnt take 6 or 7 months to mature to a adult though :/

What is its diet?
Tank size? Parameters?
Other fish? Recent diseases?

What is the episode with the kid and the fish food? Or is it just and unrelated story?
Any other information will be handy in diagnosing your platies

I think it takes a bit longer for them to reach full size if you ask me. You cant appreciate the size until they are older.... Big Blue, my female platy who just died, was huge, and easily overgrew every other platy that was in the tank... I still havent had a platy get close to what she was in length and bulk, she truely was a monster, and I think I noticed her stop growing probably a year after I bought her. But from what I have heard, fish keep growing until they die, or is that a myth? Guess I cant remember.
