i am concerned about my betta girl Violet.

she was the one who exhibits the stress stripes. the stripes are there at random, so not always on. anyway, i believe i have had her for almost three weeks and i think i have only really ever seen her eat only a couple of times. in a tank on her own.

i don't know much about betta psychology and well she has me stumped.

maybe she is not very happy.

maybe she is just not very social.

perhaps she is a true diva by not eating much, staying out of public view, and keeping low to the aquarium floor.

other than that, i don't see her rubbing against rocks/pebbles, plants, etc. i don't see her much being aggressive with her tank mates. i don't see her eat at all.

out of the four young girls i have got, she is the one to have remained the smallest as the others are evidently growing and are active in the tank.

i pulled her out last night because i was concerned about her and put her in her own little tank. i put some betta remedy in there. she didn't quite perk up. today, i changed the water and added some more white pebbles and plants to make it more homey like the big biOrb she was use to.

despite this, she doesn't eat. i put the food in - sometimes pellets sometimes freeze dried bloodworms and she didn't take to flakes the last time - and she just swims by them.

****

i don't know what else to do. she is not like the other girls at all.

she doesn't seem to exhibit any odd growths on her body but who's to say something internal may be going on?

i am stumped!

Might be she doesn't like the food, or simply doesn't need much to eat. I have a few girls that don't eat much, not that I see at any rate! If she isn't ill in any way then why not try some tempting foods, such as live brine shrimp or bloodworm. Forget the freeze dried stuff. Most of mine hate the stuff. Use frozen or live, but only a few times a week as it very high protein.
She may be naturally very small. I have about 4 that are small and always have been, despite their sisters, and brothers, being of normal size. As runts they aren't as active as their siblings and tend to spend alot of time in the floating plants.

thank you miss dib dabs......

if anything in this world, i love my little runts. my cat pooh was the runt of his litter and well, he's been with me for 14 years and counting!

now if i could only be blessed with finding a sweet little black pug puppy, my pet family would be complete!

I recently had that problem with my dear little Rascal. She's been with me for a little while, just about 5 days now, but she wouldn't eat and shied away from food and hid in the rockspace i have when i fed my molly boys (her tank mates). I found that if i send a little of her pellet down to her level in a straw, she tends to pick some of it up. Not all of it, but some. Its better than nothing i suppose.

If you're still concerned you could try that.

P.S. Pugs are fantastic dogs with great personalities. We've got a tan one named Duke, and he just loves on you like you wouldn't imagine!!

 My Mother has the full sister to my older cat and she's a runt. She was born with no tail and has the scattiest disposition I've seen in a cat. Actually my younger cat tried to kill her on a number of occassions. I often get runts from the spawns I do, simply because I rarely get any die at all. In fact I've only ever had any die from my first spawn and then I had no runts from it. Since then all survive. So runts turn up regularly. My smallest is about a centimetre in length, she was born last December.
