Is it possible for a male plakat to not have a long pointy anal fin? iv got this female (or atleast i think its a female) and for the longest time everything was fine in the female betta tank, but one day she got big and became the meanest little fish on earth. she ripped up 2 of my girls and possibly killed another, ate 2 of my ramshorn snails (which i was kind of getting attached too) and jumps out of her individual tank at feeding time like shes trying to attack me next  females are hardly ever this agressive it seems, but out of curiosity i looked today to see if she had an oviposture to make sure it was female and sure enogh i couldn't locate one... she is pretty dark, ill check again later, but i thoght males plakats had long pointy anal finss like the one i got from kelly, but this particualr fish has a short one like a female.. -_- do all females have ovipostures?

Today after dinner i went to this pet store id nvr been too before. like always i walked straight to the bettas and i immediately found 2 males i could not live without. iv picke dup a very nice crowntail male, and a double tail male. the crowntail is red and purple with a drak head (pretty common colors) but the double tail is a mustard gas, and on top of that, his 2 tail fins are rounded like in traditional double tails, they are pointy like a V shape :D im going o post picture of all my fish eventually, its just takeing me a while to get around to it -_-

i haven't been on much l8ely do to a lack of time in my scedual so i haven't been able to post or help peopel much. unfortuneatly my spawn didn't go too well and all i ended up with was 2 very mad, very torn up bettas  they are fine now thogh. its kind of dissapointing

It's actually possible for female bettas to BECOME fully functional males if their ovaries are damaged... without specific sex chromosomes, anything is possible!
If it acts like a male and lacks an ovipositior, then it probably is a male... or it might just be a really nasty female, who knows :dunno:

still cant find an oviposture... -_- if it was a plakat female, id probably just assume its accually male, but this fish was sold to me as an hm female...

she acts like the other females and doesn't pay attention to the males across the divider where she is at now, its just that shes so damn mean to the other girls. She bites at their eyes and mouth and even after shes won controlle of the tank, the little ***** spends every one of her wakeing moments harassing the other fish to exhaustion, this fish is pure evil. im going to be buying more females for the 20g soon, maybe if i get the aggression spread out a bit things will be fine -_-

You should separate her. Some females are just plain not suited for community tanks. I have one. It doesn't matter how many other girls in the tank there are...she still tries to kill them long after dominance is settled and she's the goddess of the tank. And she goes for killshots just like yours does.

She lives alone now.

Kiarra may be right... some females are just as aggressive as males, so if you think it's getting out of hand, definitely separate her

iv heard that from alot of people, she is on her own now, but even the 2 other females im going to seperate because the whole tank has me worried. even the males in their divided 10g jump the dividers and rip into eachother every once in a while, im going to be buying individual containers for all of them now ;)
