Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this but I just set up a 50 gallon tank and the filter has a very strong current. It is srong enough to move the gravel at the bottom. Is this ok? I want to add a betta to the tank and I know they don't like the strong current. Does anyone have any tips to decrease the current? The filter brand is aqua clear if that helps. Thanks for the help!

You blow the betta out the tank!!!

Honestly they don't like much flow, in fact the less the better.

Stick to barbs and danio's or larger rasboura.

Best way to drop the flow rate is to get a smaller filter, if you restrict the flow it's not the best as may cause to over heat if it's not submerged.

I didn't buy the betta yet but i will look into a new filter. Thank you

My Betta loves strong currrents, he swims down into thebubbles from the airstone and swimes towards the outlet of the filter, when he gets bored he goes behind one of the plants

I sure he not getting blown into the bubbles. Then hides behind the plants to help him not get blown about.

Not idearly they come from static ponds with no aeration or flow

For the most part bettas dont like flowing water, but all fish have their own personality.
I would either get a new filter, try to find a way to slow down the flow, or try different fish that wouldnt mind a strong flow.

Hi mollymae12 :)

If you have an AquaClear filter you can adjust the amount of flow by moving the intake tube to the right or left. Just grab the little thing that pokes out through the cover and push it sideways.

It might still be too strong for a betta, with its long flowing fins.

Hope this helps. :D
