Hi there, I have recently had to upgrade my tank due to other one springing a leak ( also seemed like great chance to upgrade to a larger tank) I got a 200L tank and used my old fluval U2 till new filter arrived, which it did today and transferred some of my old media into new filter and have them both running at the moment. My concern is that now that i have the new filter in it seems to have a very strong current and worried that may be a bit to strong for the fish to handle, i have set it as low as will go. so have a few questions...

1) can the current in the tank be to strong for the fish?
2) will there be any negative effects to having it on this strong?
3) Any signs to watch out for that the fish are suffering?

Thanks for any help :)

what is the flow rate of the new filter? or more simply what is the filter?
what fish do you have?

Most species would prefer a good amount of flow and so as long as the fish aren't getting thrown into the glass they should be fine

If your setup includes enough decor then there should be enough areas of quick and slow currents for the fish to choose where they want to hang out, so to speak.

its a fluval U4 and is 1000 LPH

only have 10 Coryadoras, 5 male guppies at the moment till tank is settled and working correctly.

I don't have much decor at moment as went from 60 litre to 200 and only the bits i had in 60 litre which was some bogwood, plants and some slate, but do plan to add more as does look rather bare.

I went from a u2 to a u4 and the difference in how the water moves looks a lot but I have had mine set up for 4 weeks + now and the fish are fine but I was a bit wary at first

Cheers

In fairness you should be aiming for a bare minimum of a 5x turnover in any setup anyway
so to have 1000lph in a 200l tank the ratio of current to tank size isn't strong at all
