I saw some really nice looking fish today, they were black and white striped and looked like some kind of cichlid. The label on the tank said stripey dora, but i thought they were catfish, anyone know what they might've been?

Probably some sort of Corydora catfish. Maybe Corydoras trilineatus?

lol@ stripey; gotta love those crazy LFS names.
the fish in question is a Oxydoras niger

No i don't think it was, just looked up oxidoras and it was nothing like that, maybe there were some of those in the tank with it, i didn't notice, just saw the word stripey and thought that was them! It was cichlid shaped but bold black and white stripes, very clear stripes, kind of like the bands on clown loach. If i go there tommorrow i'll try take a pic on my fone.

Stripey dora is more likely to be Platydoras costatus, see the "dora" section of Platydoras or maybe a type of Acanthodoras sp.. Both of those groups are likely to have stripes unlike a Pseudodoras niger.

They were Frontosa. Very cool but totally unsuitable for my tank unfortunately!
