Stripe Changing Ellioti

Noticed one of the females last night had lost her horizontal stripes and had just one vertical stripe from head to tail. Stressed I thought from the males chasing her. She is eating well and darting around with the others. But then after a while being on her own, the male took an interest and in a split second, back came her normal stripes and gone was the vertical??? This morning she did it again but this time changed when I went up to the glass, from vertical to horizontal. Have I got a cameleon Ellioti or is this normal. Other than that her other colours are good and as I said she looks very healthy. Star4 you may be right that you have nutty fish, I know their driving me mad.

The horizontal stripes are usually a sign (especially when they darken) of breeding, the vertical is usually a stress stripe. They change often particuarly when pairing up is taking place, the horizontal she is showing to attract interest, the vertical to maybe tell them to back off.

OK, me being a worry gut's again. Thanks for that Minx, knew that you or Star4 would come to the rescue. Oh yes I forgot to ask will the two rams be OK with the Ellioti, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have said yes to me if not, but just wanted to check.

Ditto Minxy, but I do notice with mine they are forever changing their stipes at the moment, feeding time they all have the vertical stripes, excitement I think, other times just the horizontal stripe, sometimes (especially when the lights are off ) no stripes at all. Mom has been in her banded strip outfit for a few days but today she has no stripes at all. Makes them fun fish eh lol

Already they make me laugh, but it's the new odd things I'm learning about them that causes me to worry. I guess it's because I've never had children, these are my babies.
