My brill new filter can simulate near natural stream conditions by alternating the flow rate every 10 seconds.

Do you think this would be beneficial to my fish?

1 oscar 1 mbu puffer 6 clown loach 2 firemouth 2 birchir and 1 rtbs.

By the way I stronly recommend the electronic filters, the flow rate is amazing!! I t also adjusts itself automatically if anything changes in the tank. Merry xmas me :)

Most of your fish are from river basins, which are like rivers or streams. The stream conditions would make them feel more like in their natural environment, so yes, I'd say it would be beneficial. Sounds like a cool filter!!

Thanks i'll give it a try, the angel seems to blown about a bit?

it's an eheim pro-3E isn't it?

they are great looking... i would use the stream fiunction - thats what i want one for. two reasons:

1, it will remove more gunks from the tank... i've noticed that if i change the flow rate slightly in my tank, it displaces dirt that has settles in different places/

2, in nature, fish as exposed to different currents all the time... be it changes in flow, or moving from one area to another. thus they should get more exercise and a more interesting environment from doing this.

i believe you can set the maximum flow rate - so as long as you set the max at a level that does not stress your puffers, you'll be in great shape.

This type of thing has been around in the marine world for a while now, with the tunze streams and wavebox. It does help with any 'deadspots' you may have in your tank where detrius can build up and start to rot.

im just going to say that you didnt say you had an angel in that tank did ya?

Yes I do have an angel. Used to have a pair but I had to give one away. I'm thinking what to do with the angel now. But he's fine at the minute he's bigger than the oscar ;)

Angels are light because of their thin body structure. As long as he isn't running into anything, he should be fine. You may want to have something planned out for the future when your little oscar gets bigger. They get pretty darn big...

 don't leave the angle in there for too long! I've had oscars before and they grow FAST, your angle might be the next thing on their menu!

Considering the Mbu can grow close to twice as long as the oscar I think the oscar is the least of his worries ;)

Have you decided on a final tank size for the puffer yet mr williams?

I am moving from a flat into a house as soon as we find one to buy. Mbu will move into the maximum size tank I can fit somewhere. A minimum of 200 gal. Price is no object so I might have something built once I know what dimensions I have to work with.

The Mbu wont move into the left side of the tank so I'm pretty sure he has enough room in there for now. If he wants more room he could always swim over to the "unexplored" side of the tank.
