Hello there, just noticed as I was fiddling with my tank arrangement this arvie, a strange *white cottony fluffy fungusy* thing is growing across my driftwood. Any ideas what this is and is it harmfull?

Cheers, Claire. :dunno:

Does it look something like this?

Gazoo.........I have that occaisionally.

It seems to appear, then move........or dissapear within 10 hrs or so, then appear somewhere else a small distance away.

We don't know what it is, but were beginning to think it was something to do with our MTS under the gravel.

mts maylasian trumpet snails. OR however that is spelled.

Also known as multiple tank syndrome. :)

Mmmm I have two large snails.....
Is this something to do with breeding? Im getting them out of there right now if it is!!!! Ark!

Sorry I still don't know........

.........and yes, as was explained.........MTS in my post was Malaysian Trumpet Snails........(Loach-proof snails pretty much).

.....and MTS in my sig relates to Multiple Tank Syndrome......... :D :D

I took the picture when my new tank had been cycling for 10 days with only a Betta. I picked the stuff out of the substrate and rinsed the plastic plants and a piece of wood. A few days later I noticed a small amount on the wood again so I cleaned it with a toothbrush and it never returned. :look:

It's looks like a common problem with wood that has never been soaked in water before. It will stop growing after a while (a few days/weeks, depending) and it is harmless to the fish.

Are malaysian trumpet snails really loach proof? I need a snail to turn my sand, but that can keep a small population despite 5 clown loaches.
