I've googled this and have no idea!
I've just done my night inspection and seen tiny little 'things' that appear to be free swimming. They are about 1-2mm in length and stick to the glass of the tank.
I did a 40%water change yesterday (I changed my filter a week ago as the old one broke and although I put the old pads in the new filter it is a bigger filter and I was worried about the bacteria etc).
Now this tank was 'donated' as someone just gave up on fish. I have very little background info on it therefore. It is a 126 litre tank.
In the tank is -
CAME WITH THE TANK - 2 Platties, 4 Harlequins, 6 neons, 1 columbian tetra, 1 diamond tetra, (I know these last two are schooling and I don't have enough)
Brought in the last month or so - 6 Guppies, 2 female Bettas, 1 baby plec, 1 algae eating shrimp.
All the fish are perfectly happy and the water stats (at the last check two days ago) were amonia 0, pH 8, nitrite 0, nitrate 10 - normal for this tank.
Now....I am new to livebeareres and am going to kick myself if someone turns round to me and says they are fry as I know that the female platy and 4 of the guppies are pregnant and 2 of the guppies have had gravid spots for a while now.
However, as these are so tiny and appear to stick to the glass a bit I don't think they are fry.
I counted about 10, maybe 15. If I move my magfloat near them they swim and then attach back to the glass. The bigest one I saw up close looked as though it was a heart shape and so I said 'fry' as they were almost fish shaped but they are SO tiny. AS I said if you all turn round and say "Sarah they are fry" I am really sorry for wasting your time and I shall kick myself!! I did watch the heavily pregnant fish and there was no sign of any fry coming out of them.
I know about the worm/parasites that arise from over feeding and sometimes stick to the glass but I wouldn't say in any way they have been overfed as I have been underfeeding slightly due to the new filter. So...yes...help really!!
Thanks guys!
