I know that they normally stay hidden when the lights are on (or during the day) and come out at night. I put 12 in my 10g tank and they always were out, day or night, light on or off. I didn't know why but I didn't complain-I love watching them. Anyway I put 4 of the 12 in my 20g tank and I can never find them unless the light is out. They're always hiding. Wonder why they didn't mind the light in the 10g tank but they don't like it in the 20? They're both flourescent lights.

If they're in a new set up they'll be out looking for food , if it's well establibshed :dunno: what to say , I wouldn't worry as long as they seem to be eating .

Mine were always hiding as well but lately they've been out in droves, at least the smaller ones. Occasionally one of the adults will show up on the top but mostly the smaller guys do it. It's supposed to be a bad sign but like I said in the other MTS thread, nothing is wrong in that tank as far as I can tell. It's well established and healthy.

They're both established tanks and they seem to eat a lot. They've done a GREAT job on the algae in the tank so far. They don't go to the top of the walls, they stay on top of the gravel or on the plants/decorations all the time. That's in my 10 gallon. In the twenty I still can't find them-I saw a dark one last night and a light one today so I know there's still at least 2 in there.

snowyangel gave me sand for my 5 gallon tank last week

i put it in and it was full of these MTS

they usually just hide but sometimes, they all come out at the same time. I really don't mind though as they keep the tank clean and they are kinda cool to watch :)

I just put a few n my 20 gallon now as i added very fine white gravel, almost like sand

they dug there way under the tunnel as soon as i put them in.

Now your sand will always move  , and that's a good thing too  .

Mine are always out and about too - it's very odd. But they've cleared up all the algae so I guess I can't complain. :dunno:

I noticed the other day when feeding my fish and snails that the Trumpets came out in droves during the middle of the day to feast on the food. I might have so many they aren't getting enough food. I only drop a couple to three pellets in every few days. May not be enough for 11 fish, 12 large snails and the dozens of smaller guys
