I was just cleaning the 29 Gallon I obtained used. I hadn't cleaned it yet and now that I have I found the bottom of the tank is Frosted Plexiglass?

Anyone ever seen this before?

Can't, I'm using the tank right now as a temp while I'm setting up my 125. :)

Plexiglass? That seems strange as the bottom of an aquarium! I wonder if its durable enough to last? Plexiglass has a "slight" tendency to bend under pressure so I would keep a close eye on that tank!

Actually, if it wasn't for the frosting and roughness of it I would never have known it was not glass.

I have all the rocks from my 55 Gallon sitting it in right now and the bottom isn't ####ed at all.

Plexiglass is pretty strong and it's not abnormal for regular glass to slightly bend either so I doubt it will be a problem.

Sounds sorta like mine, exept mine is glass (it has like little frosted octagon pattern on the bottom....like those showers) -_-

It could be glass, it just felt more like Plexiglass..... Same thing, I just couldn't remember where I saw them before. :/

Never seen it. I'm a little concerned though. Glass only needs to be supported on edges, but acrylic needs to be supported on its entire surface. As the acrylic ages and becomes brittle, I'm not so sure it will be able to hold the weight of the water.

It is already an older tank. I'm wonderin if it isn't as bshockstubb is saying and glass, not plexiglass, just that wierd stuff...

I've never had a tank with frosted plexiglass at the bottom.
That's interesting though, I think the plexiglass should hold.
Plexiglass is strong enough.

The bottom glass in my bowfront tank is frosted and it has chciken wire imbedded in it.
If that helps you at all

I doubt it is frosted..if it is plexiglass ...it sounds more like it is suffereing fomr plexi-rot (my term) this happends when plexi gets old and/or is heated to extreme temps ( like if it was stored in an attaic in summer months)
I would trust that tank at all...if it is plexi ,then that bottom will give way ...
