Why hello there, friends. I'm going to make it short and sweet. I got a male and a female spotted mollies like a month ago or so. I moved them along with all my other fish into my bigger tank yesterday and i noticed today that my male molly keeps pooping A LOT and the female keeps eating it all...is this good or bad? What would possess this fish to do this? Also, i noticed yesterday that the male kept putting his anal fin into her so I'm not sure if that has any significance. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When you say his anal fin are you buy chance talking about the modified anal fin called the gonopodium? If so then it just means they are breeding.

The female eating the males wates sounds as though she is possibly looking to increase her gut flora or is not getting enough green foods in her diet.

it's not getting enough food ? it needs to feed a good diet of foods most people on this fourm seem to think thet Livebearers only live on green foods it is only part of there diet. its a bit over the top with all the crap thet Livebearers should have plenty of green foods. feed the fish some live foods or at least give them a good varitey of different foods

Yes Mollies do need live food too, heck I have seen them live 24/7 in horse troughs where the only food they have to eat is algea and mozzie wrigglers and anything else insect wise that lands in the water. But with the female eating the males feaces it sounds like a gut imbalance, similar to every animal I can think of that is not born with an entire gut flora but needs to obtain it via adults. Eg. Kangaroos and Koalas joeys eat the feaces of thier mother to get her gut flora, cows get their gut flora via licking each other, even rabbits that dont digest thier food fully re-eat their pellets and would have to be benefitting in adding to thier gut flora.
