Tonight while feeding the fish i noticed a whole load of little orange-red pinhead-size bugs jumping around on the surface of the water  . There are a whole load more on the part of my filter that sticks out of the water too :/ . Tonight is the first night I've noticed them, and they weren't there the last time i did a water change about a week ago(I've been trying to change he water twice a week, but homework isn't permitting :( ).

I'm fairly certain they must of come from the live daphnia i got from the lfs for the fish.
They are really quite annoying :( . Does anyone know what they are, if they would of come from the daphnia (in one of those little completely sealed bags) and if they are any harm to my fish?
Also any information on getting rid of them(i hate using chemicals though) or anyone else who has/had them would be appreciated :) .

Are the fish eating them, and make sure none attached to the fish.
this might help.

With the jumping on the surface i would say daphnia.

I've not seen any attached to the fish yet, but I'm going to be on the lookout just in case. When i said jumping about on the surface of the water i meant actually ON the surface as in not below the water :S , i probably should have been more clear :/ , sorry. . That's also why the fish aren't eating them(maybe my hatchets will but i hope not unless i find out they are 100% safe).
They are also on the dry top part of my filter, when you put your finger close to them, they move away or jump, so they must have legs too I'm guessing.

I take it nobody knows then? -_- :(
If i ever find out, ill post it for anyone else with this problem.
In the meantime, if you do know please don't hesitate to reply :) .

They are actually on the surface of the water, which means i cant even use chemicles to kill them  (i hate using chemicles anyway).
I cant really make out what they look like, exept they are pinhead size with a couple of them being 1mm, they are red and they jump :/ .
Thanks for the link, its given me some more places to look :) .
Once again if anyone knows, please tell :) .

As magically as they appeared, as of today 31/12/06, they are all gone  . Yay! :D

I discovered what they are: springtails. Harmless little bugs that will die if they leave the tropical humid air underneath the aquarium hood. They were eating the algae that was growing on top of the filter, they never even touched my floating plants.
My hatchet fish liked eating them too.
I think i have a few left...

i had a very similiar incident with another tank, but they were roaches, ewww gross, this wasnt in my house so its fine
