strange guppy feed

wen i was outside today i found a couple of baby earth worms, they were pretty small. so i took them in and washed them off real good b4 killing and sterilizeing them wit hot water. then i ploped them in my guppy tank the 2 fish emidiately grabed each end and swam around the tank fighting over the worm until the female guppy finally won out and took it from her male companion. so i put the other one in hopeing that the male could get a lil and he almost did but it was soon discovered and torn out of his mouth by the female.

the worms were about 2cm long and pretty thin, they realy loved them and so far i dont think my female is sick. i wanna know if it is ok to continue doing this, they realy do enjoy the treat but i dont wanna make them sick.

well i clean the pretty good but i guess u gotta point. im gunna hafta now because they've been eating the frozen brine shrimp fallin out the bottm of my breeder so now they wont eat flake food

I would be worried about the worms carrying parasites or deadly fertlizers it's been at.

Earthworms are a GREAT source of food. Many people place them ina bowl of water so that they will pass the dirt from inside them. For larger fish, that isnt a big deal though. Some roughage is good for the fish. I would just rince them good, and chop them up small enough.

what about a week, two week and a month old fry?? can they eat the earth worms......

u c thats wat i was thinking, but i wasn't sure weather or not it was health. i wasn't realy choppin my worms up, i was jus thorowin em in whole and the guppys or corys would snag em up.

i put a lil peice in the breeder for my fry ( 1cm long ) and they didn't like it, i think its jus a big fish thing.

Well, I've never fed earthworms to my guppies. Up here we can only find these things like 9" long. Way too big to ever feed to my gupps. I'll cut them up into 3 or 4 pieces and throw them in my cichlid tanks though. They disappear in seconds!

well the same here but u jus gotta look for the small ones, im probably gunna starte just getting big ones and choppin em up into real small peices for em they really do like it so i think im gunna starte keepin a stash of em as treats.

For us Brits, we can buy captive bred, clean earthworms online from www.wormsdirect.co.uk
