Not an emergency (I hope), but I came across a new strange problem, perhaps you know what this might be.

The fish below has what appears to be solid white growth on its jaw. The fish is new, I had it only since Tue, so no way of knowing when the growth appeared -- possibly from birth. The growth is solid, not fuzzy, and may actually be under skin, pushing the skin out. Hard to see, the animal is very small (<1"), and the growth is about 1mm in length. The other side is normal. The behavior seems to be normal (for an acclimating loach): it eats, shoals, hides a little, argues with other fish in the qtank a little.

(The fish is a bit unusual, so I'd like it to survive).

The growth did not respond to two days of treatment so far...but it does not look bacterial (or fungi, or anything I've ever seen).
Treatment: flubendazole (to cover all protozoa/parasites), furandazole (generally effective against external bacteria and some true fungi).
I'm going to finish furandazole treatment anyway ( 2 more days) but it is pretty clear already it is not having an effect on the growth.

What next is not clear: I can wait and see, or try to hit it with some other drug that may possibly have an effect (which?)

Suggestions are very welcome; I'd like to keep this one alive to see how the pattern changes, it is an aberrant fish.

I've never seen anything like this on any fish...perhaps someone here did.

If the lump is solid more than likey looking at a tumour.Hard to tell in the pic even when enlarged is it a round shape not resembling a cauliflower.Only thing you can do is try a bacterial med.http://www.fishjunkies.com/Disorders/lumps.php

TY! This is what I'm trying -- antibiotics. So far, no change.

Does this picture look clearer?

Notice that the lump seems to be a perfect circle in shape....

Bless him a cute little thing.
How long have you been using the antibiotics.
If it is definately a tumour there nothing to be done, only have it removed by a vet.
Have you noticed any strands coming out of the bump.

Thanks, Wilder,

Furandazole (in water) since Wed (when I got him and noticed the problem), Oxytetracycline (in food) one day.
I think I'm giving one more dosing of Furan and give up on that (tank antibiotics are not likely to work on an internal problem anyway), I'll continue with Oxy.

Surgery is not an option, there are no vets around who could do this, and it is a 1" fish... But with this perfect circular shape, it is probably a bag of pus, not a tumor. Or a lymphatic infection...is there a lymph node in that area?

No, see no strands out of it.
