A friend of mine in Warrington had a tank with 3 discus in it, 2 of them paired up and then started harrassing the other one to such a point that i agreed to take it. When it arrived to me here in Leeds the water was cold but when i tested the pH and saw that it was the same as mine i got it in the tank with my discus straight away. Within an hour you would have thought that it had always been there, the other fish accepted it and it started eating straight away and looked really well. A week later i noticed that it had left the main bunch and was sitting in a corner of the tank. The alarm bells rang in my head straight away and i watched it closely for a while and then looked at it through my magnifying glass. It seemed perfectly okay though it was showing it's bars there was nothing visible on it. The next morning when i came down it was dead. I took it out of the tank and examined it but still couldn't see anything, the gills were a good colour and it's slime coat remained intact. If anyone can throw any light on this i would be most grateful.

could be big stress as discus are prone to stress. and as his stress bars where out, then probably was considering bullied in one tank, sitting in cold water and then going into a new tank and living with new fish. when i added some diff discus to my tank they loved them then the pecking order went abit crazy for a few days and now there all fine. i just think to mcuh stress and if he did disturb the pecking order then they would have bullied and due to the stress hes had it built up and killed him. Poor little guy!
Sorry for your loss :-(

Sorry for the loss.

How did you acclimate the fish?

What was the temp of your tank and the temp of the tank of your friends?

When discus separate itself into a corner, it's usually a sign that something is bothering it. With it being the only discus in the tank, it was also probably feeling insecure. What other fish did you have in the tank?

Angel, I think you may be right as i can think of no other explanation. Thankyou for your comments.

yes i would put it down to that. i have unfortunatly had a discus die on me when getting it home from the Lfs once before!! just with the stress it was having in one tank, stress in the bag, then more stress in a new tank with new people just put the icing on the cake and killed the poor little fella :( unfortunate things like this happen sometimes!
