Hi all,
I've recently had a outbreak of ich and i have been treating it for a week now. I increased temp to 29C increased aeration and so on.
The white spots were visible the day after the first treatment, the day after that they had almost all dropped off the fish, a day later a few spots were back on the fish, another day after that and there were no spots to be seen, it has now been 3 days since i have seen spots and a week since i started treatment.

Now, here comes the confusing part that i hope you can help me with....My fish have still all been flicking, it was rarely until today and all the fish were feeding well. But today 3 are hiding and not moving much, 1 inparticular has stopped feeding all together and often goes nuts, it swims franticly and rubs and flicks off everything then it goes back to its corner. There is no visible sign of desease except this behaviour.
Now here is another wierd bit, one of them had babys 4 days ago and they are thriving, no deaths no disease and feeding well - they are in the same tank swimming freely, how can this be? My temp is still at 29C - could this be the problem? If not can you please help me with this one?

The fish in the tank are 5 wagtail platys, numerous 4 day old frey and 1 juvenile bristle nose catfish (which is in good health)

125 ltr
0 ammonia
0nitrite
20 nitrate
PH 7.6

This really has baffled me, any help would be great, thanks in advance,

Jonny

PS. I wont be able to reply to your posts until about 6pm tonight.

What med are you using? With ich you should keep medicating the tank for a few weeks after all symptoms disappear. Just because you can't see the ich, it doesn't mean it isn't there. The only time you can actually see ich is when it is in the last stage of its life cycle.

You should continue treating for another week and maybe start to lower the temp

Any excess mucas on the gills or body.

no none, i have ruled out gill and body flukes. I've turned down the temp by a degree but no change in behaviour apart from now there are 2 platys not feeding, going to do a large water change and clean up tomorrow to see if that helps.

Hi, I'm using King British WS3, this contains malchite green - it is apparently a good med. I am still medicating and although the spots have gone the fishes behaviour is detereating as appose to improving. Saying that, the platy fry are doing superb and the catfish is in perfect health, i just don't get it.

have they developed anything else other than whitespot ie finrot etc??

one of them has developed slight finrot on its back fin but is one of only 2 fish that are showing normal behaviour, what are you thinking it might be?

How long did you treat the fish for with the whitespot med.

I'm still treating, its been 9 days now, fish still flicking, 3 are still hiding and occasionally getting frantic, i also caught a fry flicking today - they are now a week old, catfish still fine. I'm just baffled with this and don't have a clue what to do, i will continue treatment for another five days but after that i just don't know, any ideas?

I wouldn't worry then.
Meds can irratate them and make the flick and rub.

ok, what do you think about the slight finrot on one of the platys?

Finrot common on top of whitespot.
You can't add a bacterial med to the whitespot med is out of the tank.
Sometimes the whitespot med can clear up finrot.
