I picked up a Black Ghost very cheaply just over a week ago.

I placed some slate in the corner of the tank for him to hide under and he took to his home very well. Now for the last two days he's just been sitting up by the top of the tank next to my filter looking very unlively and almost slumped on one side. I've feed my tank flakes every day with frozen blood worms every other day. He seems to prefer the blood worms, but my apollo sharks seem to scoff most of them. Is my fish underfed? Why is he acting like this?

Thanks.

All i know is that they are nocturnal so need somewhere large enough to hide. Feed a lot on live food and like a low ph. Tank has to be big as well, over 200litres.
Have you tested the ph and nitrates?
Maybe the other occupents arent allowing him to sleep through the day?

Just to add that ive been reading about them and they sleep in odd positions so thats probably what he is doing.

If water stats are good, with him laying to one side sounds like a bacterial infection.

Thank you for your input.

He doesn't lye on his side, he kind of rests on his side against the filter head at the top of the tank.

I have a pH of 8, maybe that's too high?

Well that not normal behavour, is he laboured breathing.

He's breathing and eating fine it seems.

Have noticed his fin looking slightly jagged though. I wonder if my headstander getting the better of him when I'm not around.

...

You will have to find out if someone nipping his fins, as if not the fish does have a bacterial infection, any red streak or edging to the tail.
