We are seeing some strange behaviour from one of our Pearl Danios. We have had 5 of them for nearly three weeks now. They have been fine until the other day when we noticed that they were all a bit lethargic compared to their previous behaviour, and werem't eating as well as before. We had read that Danios need a lot of oxygen, so we bought an air pump, and have also been doing daily water changes as we had a bit of an ammonia problem too. The ammonia level is going down steadily and all the Danios bar this one seem a lot better. It has decided that instead of racing around with the others, it prefers to sit in a little hollow amidst the plants near the back of the tank. When it isn't there its swimming backwards and forwards behind the plants at the back. It hasn't been coming out for food, unlike the others which are still feeding ok. We can see no obvious signs of disease, and the water tests out ok (apart from the ammonia but thats going down with the water changes), so what could be the problem?

Can we take a look at your stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, ammonia can kill fish, sounds like it's took his toll on him.

Ammonia tested out today as 0.50, which is better than yesterday, although I know still not good enough - will be continuing the water changes. The other results I can't remember and forgot to write down - but I know they are all fine according to the manufacturers guide/species guide. I was just wondering if maybe he IS in shock from the ammonia being too high - he does that funny shimmying thing that I have just been reading about on here. Its weird, sometimes he'll come out for a bit, seemingly fine and chasing the others around, but then go back into hiding again. I don't think the others are harassing him either.
